International Tennis Federation Applauds Saint Lucia with Prestigious Development Award

Presenting the Award was Mr. Persio Maldonado (DOM) President of COTECC & Mrs. Cecilia Ancalmo (ESA) ITF Regional Development Officer.
The Saint Lucia Tennis Association (SLTA) has reached a historic milestone, earning international recognition with the ITF Development Award for the Pillar of Participation. The award, presented by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), honors Saint Lucia "in recognition of excellent progression in the development of tennis."
This distinguished accolade was announced during the Annual General Meeting of COTECC (Confederation of Tennis of Central America and the Caribbean) over the weekend in Panama. Representing Saint Lucia at the AGM was Ms. Scyla Murray, Administrator of the National Tennis Centre, who received the award on behalf of the association. The recognition was welcomed with pride and deep gratitude.
The award shines a spotlight on the hard work and vision of the SLTA from its executive leadership and dedicated coaches to its development officers and volunteers who have all contributed tirelessly to the sport's steady growth on the island.
At the heart of the SLTA's success is its commitment to inclusivity and opportunity. Programs such as the Schools Tennis Initiative, Grassroots Development Programs, and National Talent Identification Pathways have helped expand the reach of tennis in communities across Saint Lucia. The association continues to prioritize giving young athletes access to coaching, equipment, and competition both regionally and internationally.
"This award is a powerful endorsement of the work being done every day to ensure that tennis is not just a sport for the few, but a meaningful opportunity for all," said Ms Murray. "It reflects the passion and perseverance of everyone involved in tennis development on the island."
In recent years, the SLTA has ensured Saint Lucia is consistently represented on regional and international courts, while also hosting international tournaments at home and creating a pathway for athletes to progress through the sport.
The ITF Development Award for the Pillar of Participation is a testament to the SLTA's mission to build a strong, inclusive, and sustainable tennis culture one that nurtures young talent and invites participation at every level.
As the association celebrates this remarkable recognition, it remains committed to empowering the next generation of athletes and taking Saint Lucian tennis to even greater heights.
